We create

that touch people, that look good and function even better.

Van der Jeugd Architects

From chair to city – interior, architecture and urban design.

We are an architectural firm based in Enschede with an informal, open working atmosphere. With a small permanent staff and a broad network of specialists, we work on small and large spatial design assignments ranging from housing to utility buildings, from feasibility studies to urban renewal projects. We enjoy working on sustainable villas but also making beautiful product designs, landscapes and smart cities.

“Happiness cannot be designed, but carefully developed architecture can condition it.”

Ruud van der Koelen – Architect & Owner

We design sustainable, intelligent buildings that focus on health, interaction and well-being.

Selected Projects

Villa KH

We have designed a contemporary villa that fits sublimely into the sloping landscape. On one side, the house reveals itself as a single-story bungalow. On the other side, a second layer unfolds. The landscape is designed in such a way that house and garden subtly blend into each other.

The house is completely self-sufficient in terms of energy, low-maintenance and tailored to the specific location: sustainable beauty!

We provided the architecture, interior design, garden design, construction supervision and management for this house.

DIY Center

This project involves two large-scale retail warehouses situated in a newly developed business park on the Zuiderval, one of Enschede’s main arterial roads.

With these warehouses, we show that business accommodation can be more than the housing of functions, or a box with an advertising sign. Business accommodation can contribute to business branding, attract customers and enrich the spatial context.

Office Renovation

A lot of office space in Holland is not being used, and at the same time housing is scarce. We have taken the opportunity and created new living space through renovation.

Renovation is not only a sustainable solution. Redefining the purpose of a building, for the environment and the people who live there, is the essence for urban architecture.

Why work with us?

Power of Simplicity

In a world that is becoming increasingly complex and where choices are increasing by the day, it is not surprising that we are increasingly looking for environments that provide peace of mind. Simplicity requires design skill and technical knowledge to unite the seemingly incompatible resulting in powerful buildings without superfluity.

Sustainable Beauty

We see beauty as an important condition for our well-being. Beauty motivates. Beauty is cherished, maintained and thus contributes to a more sustainable living environment. Our working method is characterized by a driven optimism and a belief in the ability of architecture to contribute to the well-being of people and the environment.

We build for People

For us the user central to the design process. Building and technology should serve the use and not the other way around. So the question is: What makes you happy in the long term? From sketch to reality, together we create buildings for people, using design and technology to enable a sustainable, happy life.

We love Planet Earth

Therefore, we design buildings with an extremely careful eye for space, materials and energy use. Smart efficiency is at the heart of every project we implement. For us, it means developing buildings that function optimally, using little energy with the least amount of material and money. This is how we bring needs into harmony with nature.

Good design creates added value in the lives of residents and users, enhances its environment and provides a solid longterm investment.
